About CTMRF
The CHILDS Trust Medical Research Foundation (CTMRF), was established in February 1979 to advance research in pediatric medicine for better treatments and care tailored specifically for children. CTMRF over the past 45 years conducted extensive research across various fields of pediatric medicine to enhance the quality and effectiveness of medical care for children.
Pediatric medicine differs significantly from adult medicine in many key aspects. Children have unique physiological characteristics, as their bodies and organ systems are still developing, which affects how the disease manifest. A key challenge in pediatric medicine is eliciting disease symptoms, as children often cannot describe their symptoms, so it is essential to involve parents or caregivers to understand the child’s illness. Medications also must be carefully tailored based on age, weight, and developmental stage, as drugs that are safe for adults can be harmful to children.
Pediatric medicine also emphasizes preventive health measures such as immunizations, growth monitoring, and developmental assessments. These proactive steps help detect potential health issues early and promote healthy physical and mental development which ensures that the child grows into a healthy adult. A healthy childhood lays the foundation for a healthy adulthood, reducing the long-term burden of disease and enhancing overall quality of life.
CTMRF conducts advance research in the field of pediatric medicine in collaboration with Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, a leading 200 bedded pediatric tertiary care hospital in Chennai. Major focus areas of research are pediatric infectious diseases, pediatric haematology & oncology, pediatric surgery, neonatology, pediatric emergency medicine & intensive care, pediatric gastroenterology, and pediatric neurology.
The Ethics Committee of KKCTH and CTMRF, registered with CDSCO and DHR of Govt of India, includes a diverse group of members to ensure a balanced and independent review of research proposals and to ensure that studies are ethically sound, protect participants' rights and well-being, and comply with regulatory and scientific standards.
CTMRF has established a state of art molecular lab facility to support research in the field of pediatric infectious diseases. CTMRF promotes scientific exchange of knowledge by conducting CMEs, research methodology training programs and internships.
CTMRF spreads knowledge on pediatric medicine research through journal publications in various indexed journals and shares valuable findings with the global medical community, fostering collaboration, innovation, and improved healthcare outcomes for children.
CTMRF is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, and is provided 35(1)(ii) exemption under the Income Tax Act, for the donations received to support pediatric research.
